Go Home Lake is a cottage lake in the Township of Georgian Bay, Ontario, known for its intricate shoreline and predominantly boat-access community. Around 450 cottages are located on the lake, most of which are accessible only by boat (Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association, n.d.-a).
Go Home Lake is part of the Musquash River system and has a remarkably long shoreline for its relatively small surface area. The MNR reports high shoreline development, with residential and commercial uses, while approximately 35% of the surrounding land is Crown land. Water levels are regulated to reduce seasonal fluctuations during the boating season (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, 2010; Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association, n.d.-b).

Reading the shoreline
Go Home Lake has a highly irregular, branching outline with numerous bays, islands and narrow passages. Named features such as Haunted Narrows, Four Seasons Bay, Minors Bay, Echo Bay, Keyhole Bay and the New Cut illustrate the complexity of its shoreline (Transport Canada, 2026).
Its 105-kilometre perimeter surrounds just 6.66 km² of water, creating a shoreline with many enclosed reaches and changing directions. For boaters, the narrow passages and indented bays make navigation a much more defining part of the lake experience than on a broad, compact basin (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, 2010).
Recreation on Go Home Lake is closely tied to the water. Boating, paddling, fishing and swimming are central activities, while water-access-only Regatta Beach provides a public beach, swim platform, pavilion and floating docks. The cottage owners’ association also organizes seasonal activities such as swimming lessons, fishing events and the annual regatta (Township of Georgian Bay, n.d.; Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association, 2026).
Boating is essential to daily life on Go Home Lake because most of its approximately 450 cottages are accessible only by water. Lake levels are regulated during the boating season, while levels can fall substantially outside that period and make launching and navigation more difficult. Transport Canada also identifies several regulated narrow passages and bays, reflecting the care required when navigating the lake’s intricate shoreline (Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association, n.d.-a, n.d.-b; Transport Canada, 2026).
Go Home Lake supports a mixed warm- and cool-water fish community. Major sport species documented by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources include northern pike, muskellunge, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye and lake whitefish. Yellow perch, burbot, cisco and several other species have also been recorded in the lake (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, 2010).
Regatta Beach is Go Home Lake’s principal public swimming destination and is accessible only by water. The Township of Georgian Bay lists a public beach, swim platform, pavilion and two floating docks at the site, while the cottage owners’ association continues to offer seasonal swimming programs there (Township of Georgian Bay, n.d.; Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association, 2026).
MacTier, Port Severn
MacTier is closely associated with road access to Go Home Lake, including the main marina and launching area along Go Home Lake Road. Port Severn is another nearby Township of Georgian Bay community and is the mailing locality used by the Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association (Go Home Lake Marina Inc., n.d.; Go Home Lake Cottage Owners’ Association, n.d.-a).
